Figure 1 compares Hackney’s estimated number of smokers with known service use. It shows that more people are recorded by their GPs as current smokers than are suggested through survey data; this is typical for most areas and may be due to GP records not being updated when smokers quit. 3  Seven percent of the estimated number of smokers used SSS in 2015/16; just under half of these successfully quit.4

There are more people recorded as smokers by their GP than are estimated smokers. Only 7% of estimated smokers use stop smoking services, and only half of those quit smoking
