The Female Genital Mutilation Act (2003), as amended by the Serious Crime Act 2015, now includes a mandatory reporting duty that came into force on 31 October 2015. As in the rest of England and Wales, the Act requires health and social care professionals and teachers in Hackney and the City to report known cases of FGM in under 18s to the police. 2

A local multi-agency protocol will be launched in early 2017. This will provide guidance for people who routinely work with women and girls on identification and reporting of FGM in Hackney and the City.
