The Healthy Child Programme reinforces the need for schools to ensure that height and weight are measured as part of the NCMP at the school-entry health assessment (Reception Year) and in Year 6. It also recommends that the health review at school transition in Year 6/7 could include interpretation of the BMI score as part of the NCMP, with an explanation of the implications for diet and lifestyle. In addition, parents of overweight or obese children should receive appropriate information and signposting to further sources of advice and support, as well as referral to appropriate weight management services. 2
